Whether or not you agree with Donald Trump’s political views, there’s no denying his success in the business world. He’s one of the richest and most success business tycoons in America. He’s the owner of several companies and organizations, a powerful spokesperson, and a genius when it comes to entrepreneurship.
According to Forbes, Trump is worth $4.5 billion and makes $250 million every year from his multiple business dealings. Trump Tower in Chicago is the fourth tallest building in the United States, surpassing the Empire State Building – a symbol of his wealth and power.
With all that success, Trump is a man worth listening to. He has a lot to say, and fortunately for the many entrepreneurs out there, he offers a variety of tips, so others can be successful, too.
Here is some of the top advice from Trump on how to be successful in today’s volatile business world.
1. Never Stop Trying
Trump recognizes the unparalleled benefits of continually working towards the future. In his novel, Trump Never Give Up: How I Turned My Biggest Challenges into Successes, he stated, “Never give up. Do not settle for remaining in your comfort zone. Remaining complacent is a good way to get nowhere.” This statement speaks to the importance of continued effort and hard work, which is necessary for those looking to run a business.
2. Live in the Present
He also puts a lot of emphasis on focusing on the present and solving problems now. He argues that this is the most important thing you can do to improve the future. He tweeted the following quote last summer: “I try to learn from the past, but I plan for the future by focusing exclusively on the present. That’s where the fun is.” It’s a good reminder to enjoy the journey and take control of your path.
3. Think Grand Thoughts
Trump puts a lot of emphasis on going big or going home. He operates under the belief that a business owner should never be simply content with the way a business, idea, or product looks now. They should always be looking to make things bigger. “As long as you’re going to be thinking anyway, think big,” he’s been known to say. For Trump, big ideas are the only ones worth pursuing.
4. Enjoy Your Work
If you’ll be dragging yourself out of bed every morning to go to work instead of jumping out, excited for a new day, you’re doing something wrong. In December of last year, Trump tweeted a wise piece of advice for entrepreneurs: “If you’re interested in ‘balancing’ work and pleasure, stop trying to balance them. Instead, make your work more pleasurable.”
If you’re starting a business, it’s not likely you’ll have a lot of free time, so it’s important to make your time at work enjoyable. In addition, if you’re not passionate about your work, you’re not likely to get very far with your ideas.
5. Be Positive with Every Turn of Events
“What separates the winners from the losers is how a person reacts to each new twist of fate,” read one of Trump’s tweets from September of 2014. This statement has a lot of power. Pessimism won’t get you very far in business. Instead, you’ll need to roll with the punches, and react with positive ideas when you’re down on your luck.
As you approach your own journey with entrepreneurship, you’ll gain your own experience and learn some of these lessons for yourself. It’s important to keep in mind the wisdom from those who have gone before you, and use it to your advantage as you blaze your own trail in the business world.
