The internet marketing can do you wonders as far as boosting your business. Not only does it give your business it’s much needed publicity, it downright helps you with sales and establishing your brand. But did you know that implementing the wrong internet marketing strategies can do the EXACT OPPOSITE?

Depending on which internet marketing mistakes you make, instead of helping you skyrocket your small business, you’ll end up in dire straits or worse… you might end up closing it.
What internet marketing mistakes am I talking about? Read on…
1. Running a paid ads campaign without carefully setting a cap
It’s very easy to make a mistake when running a paid ads campaign.
If you aren’t so keen on what you’re doing, you’ll probably think that $.02 per impression isn’t a huge amount. I mean, hey, we’re just talking about $.02, right? WRONG!
A lot of webmasters have fallen prey to that kind of mindset and before they even know it, they’re marketing budget is dry as a desert!
You need to make sure that you add a cap to it so you can measure, see what the trending is, and see if your paid campaigns are in fact profitable for you!
2. Linking to low quality sites
It isn’t uncommon to see business owners getting a couple thousand dollars worth of sales due to having a good placement on the search results.
This is especially true for small business owners that are targeting a local area thus avoiding too much competition.
It’s because of the sales-drawing-power of SEO that a lot of small business owners are begging to get their links ALL OVER THE WEB regardless of the quality of the sites they’re linking to.
Because the small business owners aren’t that familiar on how things work online, they have the false impression of having more links = better ranking.
They can never be further from the truth! If you link to low quality sites, chances are huge that your site will be penalized thus causing it to be de-indexed or bumped up to page 50+ in Google’s search results.
When that happens, you’ll end up losing a MASSIVE amount of traffic which greatly co-relates to the sales you’re getting from it.
3. Spamming your promotions on social media sites
While social media is a VERY POWERFUL tool when it comes to marketing your business, it can also be a double edged sword if you aren’t using it properly.
Spamming your promotions on your social media sites is one of those mistakes that you should never do. It breaks relationships, annoys people, and it pretty much looks VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
With how billions of people are in social media sites, 1 unhappy person can cause you TONS of trouble if his/her negative post about your company goes viral.
4. Downright neglecting SEO
Learning how to create a website is just half of the story, carefully implementing SEO and using other internet marketing methods is just as important!
Neglecting SEO can give your competition an unfair advantage over you. The more optimized your competition is, the stronger his/her brand grows increasing the chances of your customers transferring to them, or worse… you not getting any customers at all.
Instead of neglecting SEO, you ought to optimize your site but be VERY CAREFUL about it. Avoid any gray hat techniques (let alone blackhat) and focus on white hat techniques only.
5. Linking to sites that aren’t niche related
This mistake is very much SEO related and can also give you a false impression of your site’s potential.
We all know how linking to sites that aren’t niche related can look very shady to Google right? A lot of webmasters got penalized because of this so don’t even try it.
But what others fail to see is how this mistake gives you or your webmaster a false impression of how good your business is running or how influential you’ve become. The thing is, getting traffic from sites that aren’t niche related are usually the ones that DO NOT CONVERT TO SALES.
That said, you might be seeing your site as one that has a huge capability of bringing you sales because of its massive traffic. You might be thinking that its just a matter of CRO (conversion rate optimization) yet these insurmountable amounts of traffic won’t really do you any good because these visitors are from other sites that isn’t niche related to yours. These visitors usually have a different mindset and are looking for a different service so chance of them buying from you is really slim.
I urge you to think about your current internet marketing methods and see if you’re committing any of these mistakes. if you are, then it’s high time that you change directions!
Many small business owners have made these mistakes and end up losing their business in a snap. Are you going to be next?
